Homemade stronach SILENT POET, winner of both the GII Connaught Cup and his second straight GII Nearctic S. race last season, rebounded from an out-of-the-box trio of efforts to topple Sunday’s GI Highlander S. at Woodbine. The 9-1 shot was perched just behind filly Caravel (Mizzen Mast), succeeded that foe with relative ease in the stretch and continued to fend off a furious late bid from the half-length Admiralty Pier (Manche). Caravel held third place. The winner, last seen in fifth as he attempted to defend his Connaught Cup title on July 18, stopped the clock in 1: 07.98.
