GEORGIA – Liam and Ava were the most popular names given to babies born in Georgia in 2020, according to recently released federal data.
The U.S. Social Security Administration revealed its annual list last Thursday which shows the best baby names in each state. A total of 590 babies born in our state were named Liam while 567 were named Ava, according to records.

Ava remained the most popular female given name in our state in 2019 and 2020, but fewer babies were named Ava last year at 567 than in 2019 with 627. Liam also remained the first male given name in our state in 2019 and 2020, but seven more babies were named Liam last year than in 2019.
Nationally, Liam was once again the first male given name, followed by Noah and Oliver. Olivia also marked her second year in a row as a first female given name, followed by Emma and Ava.
The Social Security administration began publishing the annual list in 1997, with names dating back to 1880. The agency also notes that popular culture influences baby names.
Over the past 100 years, the male given name Michael has occupied the first place most often 44 times, while the female given name Mary has been ranked No. 1 35 times during the same period.
