PHOENIX – The sixth annual Bashas donut flavor craze contest has 13 entrants.
A panel of judges named five adults, five children and three Bashas store employees as finalists in their donut flavor contest.
Participants were asked to create a new donut flavor based on their previous travel experiences.
Final flavors include a vanilla donut dipped in dolce de leche, a raised jelly donut stuffed with pineapple jelly and coconut glaze, a Limoncello flavored cake donut with raspberry frosting and a donut filled with Bavarian cream topped with chocolate icing.
Entries were judged by a variety of factors, including the flavor combination, the name of the creation, a 100-word description, and the key ingredients in making the treats.
The groups were divided into three categories: children aged eight to 17, adults aged 18 and over, and employees of the Bashas store.
One winner from each group will be selected on June 4 for National Donut Day by a jury of local celebrities.
Each winning participant will have their donuts featured in Bashas baking departments across the state, receive $ 500 in prizes including a grocery gift card and Bashas kitchen sets, be named official ambassadors of the Basha donuts for the year and will receive a dozen. donuts each month for the following year.
The finalist from each group will walk away with a $ 50 Bashas gift card and the third will receive a $ 20 grocery gift card.
